Environmently Friendly Living in Devonport Tasmania

We love clean air, mountains and environmentally sound living. We have pooled resources to find a piece of land on the edge of a wonderful reserve called The Don (or formally Don Reserve), where we wanted to live. Located on the edge of Devonport, only minutes from CBD, close to schools but not on a main road, adjoining the heavily forested Don Reserve which is peppered with walking and fitness trails, including the cycleway that follows the beach into town.

The council has approved driveway access from the adjoining streets (Oldaker and Parker streets) so that there is no traffic driving past the homes. This means no traffic noise, no petrol smells, and a sense of rural living with direct views of the trees in Don Reserve.

Devonport has all the facilities of a major town, from Woolworths and Coles, to major hardware chains, good schools and an airport with multiple flights to Melbourne each day at an affordable rate. Airport parking is only $1 per stay (1 day or 3 months!).

The homes are architecturally designed to fit the blocks to be environmentally responsible (7.5 star energy rating) comfortable three bedroom homes with single garage to accommodate couples who wish to live in a quiet area. With split level arrangement, where the entrance is midway between the two floors. Internal access to the downstairs garage, adjoining a study and ensuite.

The sloped ceilings give interesting angles to the living spaces and the sloped higher ceilings provide a visually pleasing effect as well as optimising the daylight. Each house has access to a rainwater tank suitable for watering your own vegetable or herb garden!

Living in Devonport is ideal for people with national and international connections as the airport is a comfortable traffic free 12km drive away. Flying to Melbourne with Qantaslink is a 1 hour flight (as low as $79 o/w) with direct connections from Melbourne to almost any other capital city. Plus Devonport is where the Spirit of Tasmania sails into Devonport, meaning you can drive your car ($89 extra), bicycle ($6 extra) or motorbike on board and wake up in Melbourne. For those that like to fly using frequent flier points, Canberra is only 8000 points away from Devonport airport, where the parking is still virtually free.

Pet friendly? Of course it is pet friendly living with  the Don Reserve just on your doorstep for all your dog walking!
